Bhubaneswar: Tension prevailed at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla in Odisha’s Sambalpur district on Thursday following a heated altercation between a postgraduate student and a security guard. Both sustained minor injuries in the ensuing scuffle. According to reports, a security guard and a postgraduate student at the VIMSAR got into a heated argument over some issue and an exchange of blows followed.
Soon after, the brother of the security guard reached VIMSAR to defend his brother. In the melee, more people sustained injuries. Tension escalated as many postgraduate students of the college demanded the removal of the company providing security guards to VIMSAR. They also staged a demonstration on the premises of VIMSAR.
On being informed, the Burla police station IIC reached the campus with his team and tried to pacify the agitated students.
Later, VIMSAR Superintendent Lalmohan Nayak said, “We are aware of the incident and I have met the injured student, whose condition is stable. The students are demanding the removal of the security organization. We will take a decision on this issue after discussing the matter with both parties. Additional police personnel have been deployed to prevent further escalation of the situation.”
