Kendrapada: Tension prevailed in Karilopatna area of Kendrapada district as an irate mob staged a road blockade protesting the death of a sand miner in an accident in the region on Monday.
According to reports, a truck going to fetch sand from the bank of river Luna near Baspur ran over Laxman Malik, a resident of Baspur, while he was working in a sand pit. Laxman died on the spot.
As the news of the incident spread, a mob gathered at the sand pit and set a local factory afire and staged a blockade on the Kendrapada road in Karilopatna demanding compensation to the kin of the deceased.
A police team from the nearby Kendrapada police station arrived at the spot and was engaged in pacifying the mob. The road blockade was not lifted till the time of filing this report.
