Bhubaneswar: A group of armed miscreants looted ballot boxes at a polling booth in Barang on outskirts of the city on Friday. The incident took place during the afternoon, around an hour before the second phase of Panchayat Poll was coming to an end.
According to reports, armed miscreants barged into Booth No. 11 at Radhamadhab Bidyapeetha in Kurangapadhan gram panchayat of Barang block today afternoon and looted the ballot boxes.
The miscreants threatened a Sarpanch candidate with life before fleeing from the spot. The incident triggered tension at the booth with locals demanding police action and re-election.
Till last reports came, a platoon of force was deployed at the booth and police officials were holding discussion with the villagers. The local BDO also rushed to the spot and conducted a preliminary inquiry.
On the other hand, the agent of a Sarpanch candidate who was allegedly threatened by the miscreants has lodged a complaint with Sadar police.
