Koraput: One person was killed and another critically injured after a violent incident broke out over a pending tent payment at a wedding ceremony in the DP Camp area of Sunabeda in Koraput district on Sunday.
According to reports, the victims—both tent service workers—had gone to collect pending payments from a Bengali family that had recently hosted a wedding. The altercation reportedly escalated when the workers insisted on the settlement of dues.
In the course of the confrontation, the bride’s brother allegedly rammed his vehicle into the two men, leading to one fatality on the spot and leaving the other grievously injured.
The accused has been identified as Shankar Bahadur, is said to have fled the scene following the incident. The injured person is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
In response to the incident, the family of the deceased staged a protest outside the Sunabeda Police Station, placing the body on the road and demanding immediate arrest of the accused. The agitation led to a blockade on National Highway-43, disrupting vehicular movement and causing significant traffic congestion in the area.
