Cuttack: The presiding deity of Cuttack, Maa Katak Chandi adorned the Besha of Goddess Maha Saraswati on the occasion of Navami today. Special Puja and rituals were held in the age-old temple located at Chandi Chowk in the Silver City.
At Shakti Peeths across Odisha, the Sodasa Upachar puja is held during Durga Puja. “There is no need to feel sad because we are deprived of Darshan. These are special circumstances when we need to be careful to save ourselves from COVID-19,” a senior priest said.
The Sodasha Puja begins on Mulashtami, when the priests invite Devi Durga to come down to earth and eliminate the evil forces. It continues till Dashami when the ‘Kalash’ is immersed into Mahanadi, marking the end of Durga Puja at Shakti Peeths.
Goddess Cuttack Chandi has adorned the following attires over the last 15 days: Suna besha, Bhubaneswari besha, Ugratara besha, Raja Rajeshwari besha, Tripura Bhairabi besha, Matangi besha, Jaya Durga besha, Narayani besha, Harachandi besha, Sodashi besha, Bana Durga besha, Gayatri besha, Bagalamukhi besha, Mahakali besha, Mahalaxmi besha, and Maha Saraswati besha.
“On Friday, for Dashami, the Cuttack Chandi will donne the Mahisamardini besha,” the senior priest added.
