Bhubaneswar: Anti-corruption crusade and people-centric schemes have been the two pivots of Naveen Patnaik’s Chief Ministership in Odisha. Over the past two decades, the once-upon-a-time poor state has risen up in the ladder in different sectors of development.
Naveen’s team at the CMO played a vital role in his achievements. And when it comes to team, the Chief Minister’s private secretary VK Pandian has spearheaded the development goals. Now in the fifth term, with 5-T (Teamwork, Technology, Transparency, Transformation and Time Limit) in force, Pandian is heading the mission as its Secretary.
Soon after coming to power, the Chief Minister’s PS was given the additional and crucial charge of Secretary to CM Transformation and Initiatives (5T). Pandian has been the eyes and ears of the Chief Minister for over eight years and was rightly picked by Naveen to champion the causes (anti-corruption and welfare at grassroots) which are very close to his heart.
After taking over as 5T Secretary, Pandian was on his first tour to three southern Odisha districts on Wednesday. The senior IAS officer visited Koraput, Nabarangpur and Malkangiri and toured the district headquarters hospitals.
9th October also happens to be the birth anniversary of legendary Pandit Gopabandhu Das, who was known for his proximity to the cause of poor and oppressed. The day was apt for the maiden 5T Secretary to reach out to the people of the three backward districts.
During the one-day visit to Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur, Pandian reviewed various programmes under ‘Mo Sarkar’ initiative. He also chaired a series of meetings with senior officials of the district administration.
After coming to power for the fifth time, Naveen gave clear instructions to his officers that the trust and enormous confidence of the people needs to be respected. “All of us have been directed to go an extra mile to live up to the expectations of the people of Odisha,” Pandian had once confided before a senior journalist.
‘Mo Sarkar’ launched by the Chief Minister on Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary is certainly the right step in this direction. Healthcare institutions and police stations have always been the pain points of common masses. These two sectors have been appropriately chosen under ‘Mo Sarkar’ programme to get feedback on the system.
“Rarely seen in the public and even less heard, Pandian is on a mission to effectively implement the Chief Minister’s 5T mantra and success of Mo Sarkar,” the senior journalist added.
