Bhubaneswar: Police on Friday arrested five persons in connection with the theft at former international hockey star Prabodh Tirkey’s residence at Unit-VI here. The thieves had stolen medals won by Tirkey and other valuables on the night of January 21.
The accused have been identified as Chitta Ranjan Dalei (30), Sukant Nayak (34), Milu Behera (39), G Ganga (30) and Rajka Mahalik (20). Incidentally, more than 100 cases are pending against the accused at various police stations in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
The police recovered 14 medals and valuables from the possession of the arrested. The recovered items include gold ornaments, a camera, two mobile phones and an LED TV among others.
The accused had entered the house of Tirkey when he and his family members were in Rourkela. A youth engaged by Prabodh to look after his government quarter had informed him about the theft.
A complaint in this regard had been lodged at the Capital Police Station.
