Jeypore: A thief lost his life while attempting to steal from a businessman’s house in Atigaon under Kundura block in Koraput district. The incident occurred last night when five thieves, including the deceased, Bharat Gand of Kamara village, arrived at the residence of businessman Sachindra Gupta with the intention of committing robbery.
The thieves allegedly locked the door and threatened the family members with swords, stealing with approximately Rs 1 lakh cash and a gold chain. However, their plans were foiled when the villagers arrived at the scene after being informed of the incident.
Four of the thieves managed to flee, but Bharat Gand was caught by the villagers, who beat him severely before handing him over to the Kundura police in critical condition. The police admitted him to the Community Health Center, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
A scientific team and Jeypore SDPO Partha Kashyap have launched an investigation into the incident. The SDPO and the scientific team visited the Kundura Community Health Center and recovered the body. The circumstances surrounding the incident are being probed.
