**Bhubaneswar: ** Soon after the assembly poll results of the five States, especially the BJP-ruled States where the saffron party lost to the Congress and the regional parties stole a march in Mizoram and Telangana, BJD supremo-cum-Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had his reactions on the day dubbing the BJP’s drubbing as the mood of the nation.
Taliking to media, the BJD supremo and Odisha Chief Minister said, “I congratulate the Congress, the MNF and the north-eastern parties for their success in this election.”
“It really shows the mood of the nation. These States are predominantly agrarian States. And the BJP Government at the Centre has more or less ignored the Swaminathan Report recommendations and also the loan problems with the farmers. So this resulted in the present results that have come from various States.”
On being asked BJP has been rejected significantly in the heartland or south and north-east and as speculations are rife on new alliances, where BJD stands, the BJD supremo replied, “As I said often before, the BJD remains equidistant from the BJP and the Congress parties.”
When prodded that BJD is giving issue-based support to BJP in the Parliament like Deputy Rajya Sabha election, demonetization and different issues, pat came his reply, “We have supported and we have not support on various issues. We remain equidistant from those two parties (BJP and Congress).
When asked if he find any impact on the coming Odisha election, the regional satrap stated very intelligently, “Well I have assessed this is the mood of the nation and Odisha is very much a part of the nation.”
On his reactions to Rahul Gandhi supporting the women reservation crusade, the Odisha Chief Minister said, “As you know we’re the pioneer of Women Reservation Bill. It should be good if the parties support the Bill.”
When further asked if the Mahanadi issue would be now solved after Chhattisgarh has the Congress government, the Chief Minister replied, “I certainly hope that it will be.”
He further reacted, “So far minimum support price (MSP) is concerned, the BJP has not done anything substantially. Because of these, you see the present results.”
On the ‘Mahagathbandhan’ (mega alliance) he replied, “There is no such Mahagathbandhan at the moment. Let’s see in the future.”
