Jharsuguda: In a late-night operation on Sunday, police raided a makeshift gambling spot deep inside the Kankakumur jungle under Tileimal Panchayat in Laikera police station limits, leading to the arrest of three persons.
The raid was launched after police received specific intelligence regarding an illegal gambling session being held in the dense forest area.
A team led by Laikera Police Station IIC Dilip Behera swiftly moved into the location and caught three gamblers red-handed. Several others who were present managed to escape into the darkness of the forest upon detecting police movement.
During the operation, police seized ₹6,630 in cash, three sets of playing cards, and six motorcycles believed to have been used by the participants.
The arrested persons have been identified as Ranjit Purty, Bikas Prasad, and Biplab Sarkar, all residents of the Gobindapur area under Bamra police station limits in neighbouring Sambalpur district.
A case has been registered at Laikera police station, and the accused were produced before the court on Monday. The raid was conducted with support from the night patrolling team of Laikera police, officials said.
