Bhubaneswar: Rourkela police arrested three fraudsters for duping car owners on the pretext of taking the vehicles on lease. A couple identified as Satyabhama Das and Saroj Kumbhar allegedly involved in the fraud are absconding.
They used to take car on lease from various owners by promising them of rent. Later, they cheated the owners.
Satyabhama and Saroj were the mastermind of the syndicate, police said.
The Sector-3 police busted the fraud after arresting three persons in the city.
Police have so far recovered 10 vehicles from them and handed over to real owners.
Satyabhama and her husband used to cheat car owners through their own agency. They usually make deal with the car owners promising them of good rent by engaging the vehicles in companies. After wining trust of the vehicle owners, they gave a slip to them.
They also mortgaged some car outside the State and sold some others without the knowledge of the real owners, Rourkela SP Brijesh Kumar informed.
Police launched an investigation to nab the fraudster couple.
