Choudwar (Cuttack): In a major development in the much-discussed double murder case reported from Nergundi under Tangi police station in Cuttack district, police have arrested three persons in connection with the crime and produced them before a court. However, the exact motive behind the killings is yet to be officially confirmed by the investigating agency.
According to police sources, at least five more persons are suspected to be involved in the incident. To track them down, police have constituted five special teams that are currently conducting raids at various locations.
Choudwar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) informed that complete details regarding the murders will be disclosed only after all the accused are arrested, as the investigation is still at a crucial stage.
Sources said that following the murders, the maternal uncle of one of the deceased, Md Sahib—identified as Abdul Muslim Khan—lodged a complaint at Tangi police station, prompting the police to launch an intensive investigation.
During the course of the probe, police arrested garage owner Dillip Kumar Nayak from his garage. Subsequently, Gyan Ranjan Mahanty was apprehended from the Choudwar area, while Mithun Kumar Singh alias Baula was arrested from the Soro area. Based on information gathered from the arrested accused, police have further intensified search operations to nab the remaining suspects.
Police officials have expressed confidence that the other accused involved in the double murder will be arrested very soon, and assured that swift legal action will be taken against all those responsible.
