Bhubaneswar: Three police personnel were suspended following the escape of an accused from the Brahmabarada police station in Jajpur district late on Friday night.
The accused, identified as Ashish Behera of Chandamohini village, was arrested in connection with a theft case at a medical facility in Kundapatana under the Brahmabarada police station limits. While in police custody, Behera managed to flee from the station lock-up.
After escaping, the accused allegedly stole a laptop from the police station and a motorcycle parked nearby. During his attempt to flee, Behera met with an accident that left one person injured. He abandoned the motorcycle at the spot and managed to escape.
Following the incident, Jajpur Road SDPO Sarat Chandra Patra immediately reached the police station and conducted a preliminary inquiry. Based on the findings of the probe, Jajpur SP Yashpratap Shrimal ordered the suspension of three police personnel — one Assistant Sub-Inspector and two Constables — for gross negligence in duty.
A massive manhunt has been launched by the Jajpur police to trace and apprehend the absconding accused. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the security breach at the police station.
