Cuttack: In a tragic incident, three persons were killed after a slab of an under-construction bridge collapsed in Khannagar in Cuttack.
The incident occurred during the construction of a bridge over river Kathajodi in the area. Initially, five people were injured, of whom three died and two were seriously injured. All the injured have been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital.
The deceased include the site engineer Soumya Ranjan Behera and Shiba Shankar Patnaik, Subhash Chandra Bhakta. The two injured persons are Bikal Jena and Arun Barik.
“Five persosns were injured in the incident. All of them were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital by ambulance, where two laborers were declared brought dead. One crane driver also sustained injuries. We have started our preliminary investigation, and our team is present on the spot. All angles will be investigated,” Cuttack DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo said.
Cuttack Mayor Subhas Singh said that a high-level inquiry should be conducted into the unfortunate incident and strict action should be taken against the guilty. “Only compensation would not subside the sorrows of the victims’ families,” he added.
