Bhubaneswar: Three people died in lightning strikes in separate incidents in Angul and Jharsuguda districts today. A father and son were working in a paddy field when lightning struck them, resulting in their deaths, while two others are in critical condition.
The incident took place this afternoon in the Takba area of Nakachi panchayat in Kishore Nagar block of Angul district.
The deceased father and son have been identified as Prafulla Majhi (53) and his son Praveen Majhi (22). The injured, Biranchi Sethi (31) of Takba village and Arun Behera (58) of Ranibhuin village, have been seriously injured in the lightning strike.
According to reports, seven laborers, including Prafulla Majhi and his son Praveen from Balikhaman village, Biranchi Sethi from Takba village, and Arun Behera from Ranibhuin village, were working in the field.
During a sudden thunderstorm, the four male workers took shelter under a nearby mango tree, where they were struck by lightning. Everyone fell unconscious, and after some time, Arun Behera shouted for help, prompting villagers to rush to the scene and admit them to Kishorenagar Community Health Center for treatment. Unfortunately, Prafulla Majhi and Praveen Majhi were declared dead by the doctors.
In a separate incident, one person was killed due to a lightning strike in Tarakaspur under Brajrajnagar police station in Jharsuguda district.
