Bhubaneswar: Three persons were killed in separate elephant attacks in Kandhamal district in last two days.
As per reports, two villagers, Kirtan Bagarti, and Bamdev Pradhan, were trampled to death in the Gumikia forest under Raikia block yesterday, while another person was killed in the Danipangi forest under Tikabali block today morning.
According to villagers, three villagers including Dhaneshwar Pradhan, Kirtan Bagarti, and Bamdev Pradhan had gone to the forest. On their way back, they were suddenly attacked by an elephant. Dhaneshwar Pradhan managed to escape, but the other two couldn’t, resulting in their deaths due to the elephant’s trampling.
The latest victim was a resident of Tikabali. He was trampled by rogue elephant in the wee hours of Saturday.
The incidents have created fear among locals, with two consecutive days of elephant attacks claiming three lives.
Upon being informed, the Forest Department officials are monitoring the elephant’s movement in the area.
