Bhubaneswar: In a breakthrough, security forces have gunned down three Maoists during a joint operation along the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border, on Friday.
As per reports, the operation, which began on the intervening night of January 2 and 3, targeted Maoist strongholds in the border areas of Odisha’s Nuapada district and Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband district.
An exchange of fire occurred at around 11 am today between the security forces and Maoists at Atang Forest, located in the border areas of Nuapada and Gariaband.
The joint operation involved a combined force of Special Operation Group (SOG) teams, Chhattisgarh Special Forces, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Apart from the bodies of three ultras, five weapons have also been recovered from the scene.
Till the last report came in, the exchange of fire is still underway, and further details are awaited.
