Bhubaneswar: In a major decision to boost air connectivity in Odisha, the Union Government has decided to include three more airports in the State under the fourth phase of Regional Connectivity scheme – UDAN.
The airports which will be included under UDAN-4 are – Rourkela (Sundergarh), Utkela (Kalahandi) and Jeypore (Koraput).
This was announced at a high-level meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy at the Lok Seva Bhavan here on Friday.
Civil Aviation Secretary Pradeep Singh Kharola who was present at the meeting, said, “Steps to be taken for improvement of air connectivity in Odisha. We are in touch with the State government and whatever issues are there, will be resolved.”
Earlier this year, commercial flight service was initiated from Veer Surendra Sai Airport at Jharsuguda to six cities of the country under UDAN-3 project.
Important matters pertaining to development of Bhubaneswar’s Biju Patnaik Internation Airport were also discussed at the meeting.
