Koraput: Three members of a family, including a 5-year-old child, were killed when the car they were travelling by collided head-on with a tanker truck on NH-26 near Pungar village under Pottangi police limits in Odisha’s Koraput district, in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to reports, the accident occurred at around 6.00 am when the family was on its way to Visakhapatnam from Jeypore. All three occupants of the car died on the spot under the impact of the collision.
The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.
On being informed, Pottangi police reached the accident site, recovered the bodies, and sent them for post-mortem. The police have also launched an investigation.
As the news of the accident spread, tension ran high in the area and irate locals detained the truck driver and set up a road blockade. The movement of vehicles on the portion of the NH was affected due to the mishap.
