Puri: Swift action by lifeguards averted a major mishap at the sea beach in Puri on Saturday after three tourists were swept away by strong rip currents during high tide conditions.
According to sources, two young men and a young woman were caught in powerful currents while bathing at Chakratirtha Beach in the afternoon. As they struggled to stay afloat, alert lifeguards stationed at the beach rushed into the sea and managed to rescue all three.
The identities of the rescued tourists are yet to be ascertained.
Following the rescue, the lifeguards administered primary medical assistance at the spot. All three individuals are reported to be safe and in stable condition.
Authorities have reiterated their appeal to tourists to exercise caution while entering the sea, particularly during high tide and rough weather conditions, when rip currents pose a significant risk.
