Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of thunderstorms and lightning at one or two places over several districts of Odisha during the next four days. The weather agency has issued a ‘yellow’ warning for these districts.
In view of the ‘yellow’ warning issued by IMD, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has issued an advisory to the Collectors of the concerned districts to keep administrative machinery ready to face any eventuality.
In the advisory, the Collectors have been asked to advise people to keep watch on the weather and take safe shelter during the thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning.
Further, they have been asked to submit a report on damage due to thunderstorms, whirlwinds, hailstorms, and lightning immediately for information of the government.
Here’s IMD’s weather forecast and warning for the districts of Odisha:
Day 1 (Valid up to 0830 hrs IST of 29.03.2024)
Light to moderate rain/thundershower is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Sundargarh, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput & dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest of districts of Odisha.
YELLOW WARNING: (BE UPDATED): Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Sundargarh, Gajapati, and Rayagada.
Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 29.03.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 30.03.2024)
Light to moderate rain/thundershower is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj & dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.
YELLOW WARNING : (BE UPDATED): Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Jajpur.
Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 30.03.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 31.03.2024)
Light to moderate rain/thundershower is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Mayurbhanj & dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.
YELLOW WARNING:-(BE UPDATED): Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Angul.
Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 31.03.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 01.04.2024)
Light to moderate rain/thundershower is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, & dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.
YELLOW WARNING:-(BE UPDATED): Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj.

Light to moderate rain/thundershower is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Bhadrak & dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.

In its temperature forecast, the IMD has said that there will be a gradual rise in maximum temperature (day temperature) by 2-3°C during the next 02 days and no large change thereafter at many places over the districts of Odisha. Similarly, minimum temperature (night temperature) will gradually rise by 2-3°C during the next 03 days and no large change thereafter at many places over the districts of Odisha.
