Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bhubaneswar, has issued a Nowcast Orange Alert at 3.15 PM on Tuesday for several districts in southern and western Odisha, warning of moderate thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty surface winds reaching 40–50 kmph, and light to moderate rainfall. The affected districts include Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Sundergarh, and Nuapada, and the warning remains valid for the next two to three hours.
The IMD has cautioned that the weather may cause minor damage to loose or unsecured structures, banana plantations, and standing crops. Residents in the alerted districts are advised to stay prepared and monitor local weather updates for any deterioration in conditions. Movement to safer places is recommended if necessary.
In a separate advisory, a Nowcast Yellow Alert has been issued for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Angul, Nayagarh, Boudh, Gajapati, and Ganjam districts. These areas are likely to experience light to moderate thunderstorms with gusty winds (30–40 kmph) and lightning within the next three hours.
The IMD has urged residents in these regions to remain alert and take protective measures, particularly to guard against lightning strikes.
