Bhubaneswar: The regional branch of India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday forecasted moderate thunderstorm activity with lightning and gusty surface winds under the influence of moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal in several Odisha districts during the next three days.
The IMD has advised people to keep watch on the weather and take safe shelter during thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning and follow traffic advisories in urban areas.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rain/thunderstorm occurred at a few places in south Odisha districts, at one or two places in north Interior Odisha with heavy rainfall at one place in Koraput district. Hailstorm activity with the gusty surface wind has been reported in Koraput, Ganjam, Malkangiri and Rayagada districts during the past 24 hours.
Light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely at many places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bolangir and Kalahandi.
The surface wind speed is likely to be between 40 kmph and 50 kmph at one or two places in Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore and thunderstorm with lightning is likely to occur at one or two places over the remaining districts of Odisha during the next 24 hours.
