Bhubaneswar: The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued a yellow warning for 20 districts of Odisha for thunderstorms and gale for the next four days. According to the weather office, strong winds bearing rain will continue along coastal, north, and south Odisha with thundershowers.
Due to the impact of the cyclone over Telangana and Madhya Pradesh, some places in Odisha will experience heavy rains.
Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Rayagada, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal districts may experience strong winds. The wind speed in these districts will be between 40-50 kmph.
Scattered lightning and rain are also expected in some areas of Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Nayagarh, Dhenkanal, Angul, Gajapati, and Ganjam districts.
On the other hand, there is no possibility of any significant change in the day temperature in the state for the next five days, while the temperature is expected to remain above 42°C in most parts of western Odisha. Western Odisha districts including Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Sonpur, Balangir, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh will continue to experience heatwaves.
On the other hand, a low-pressure area is likely to form in the Arabian Sea and East Central Bay of Bengal on June 6. This may affect the South-West Monsoon air flow to south and east India, said the Center for Environment and Climate – CEC, run by the University of Education and Research, SOA.
Director of CC, Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu said that the progress of the southwest monsoon may depend on the intensity and direction of this low-pressure area. Except for west Odisha, the day temperature (maximum temperature) has somewhat dropped in the remaining districts of the state. However, the humidity is 75 to 80 per cent due to excess water vapor in the atmosphere.
