Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow warning’ that thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Khurda, Puri, and Nayagarh during the next 24 hours.
Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at many places over the districts of North Interior Odisha and at a few over the rest districts of Odisha during the next 24 hours, the IMD has said in its today’s midday weather bulletin.
The IMD in its forecast for Bhubaneswar and its neighbourhood for the next 24 hours has said that the sky will remain partly cloudy with possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorm.
Southwest Monsoon has been subdued over Odisha, the IMD said.

Day 1 (Valid up to 0830 hrs IST of 12.08.2023)
Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at many places over the districts of North Interior Odisha and at a few over the rest districts of Odisha.
Yellow Warning (Be updated): Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh.
Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 12.08.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 13.08.2023)
Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of North Coastal Odisha , Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal and at a few places over the rest districts of Odisha. Yellow Warning (Be updated): Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, and Boudh.
Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 13.08.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 14.08.2023)
Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of North Odisha and at one or two places over the districts of South Odisha.
Yellow Warning (Be updated) Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Rayagada.
Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 14.08.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 15.08.2023)
Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Odisha.
Day 5 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 15.08.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 16.08.2023)
Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of North Coastal Odisha, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh and at a few places over the rest districts of Odisha.
The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has issued an advisory to all Collectors in view of the ‘yellow warning’ issued by the IMD.
As per the advisory, districts under yellow warning are to keep administrative machinary ready to face any eventuality.
The advisory has cautioned that in urban areas, low-lying areas may have water logging, and roads/drains may be submerged under water (.)
In case of very heavy rain, people of low-lying areas may be shifted to safer locations temporarily.
In the advisory, ULBs have been advised to keep the drains/stormwater channels de-congested, and adequate dewatering pumps may be deployed as per requirement.
People may be advised to keep watch on the weather and take safe shelter during the thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning and follow traffic advisories in urban areas, the advisory underlined.
Further heavy to very heavy rainfall recorded may be reported immediately to the office of the SRC and submit report on damage, if occurred due to thunderstorm, whirlwind, hailstorm, lightning and heavy rainfall immediately for information of the government.
