Bhubaneswar: The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds in several districts of Odisha during the next five days.
The MeT office said that due to the likely interaction of a middle tropospheric westerly trough with lower-level easterly, and moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal, meteorological conditions are becoming favourable for moderate thunderstorm activity with lightning, gusty surface wind and scattered rainfall to fairly widespread rainfall over the districts of Odisha within next five days.
“People are advised to keep watch on the weather and take safe shelter during the thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning and follow traffic advisories in urban areas. Also, harvesting of Rabi crops is advised to regulate judicially,” the IMD said.
Light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely to occur at one or two places in Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Angul, and Boudh districts, while dry weather is likely to prevail over rest districts of Odisha.
A yellow warning for thunderstorms with lightning has been issued for one or two places in Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Angul districts on Wednesday.
