Baripada: A severe thunderstorm has struck various areas of Bangiriposi, Bisoi, Rairangpur and other areas in Mayurbhanj district. Due to the severe thunderstorm, many houses were damaged by the rain and hailstorms, while the roofs of some houses were also broken.
As a result, the lives of the affected people have been disrupted. It has been reported that large trees and electric poles have also been uprooted due to the severe thunderstorm. The severe thunderstorm raged for about three hours. Due to the uprooting of electric poles, power supply has been disrupted in most areas.
Even in Rairangpur town, there was no power supply till the time of filing this report. Since it was evening, the full extent of the damage and loss is not yet known.
Several people were injured due severe hail storm in Bisoi area in the district. Many of them have been admitted to Bisoi health centre for treatment.
Meanwhile, the Fire Department, Electricity Department, and Forest Department are clearing fallen trees at various places. The Meteorological Department had earlier warned that the impact of the nor-wester would be quite high in the state from March 19 to 22.
