Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds to occur in several districts of Odisha over the next three days, from March 20 to 23.
According to the weather forecast, thunderstorms with lightning and hail are likely to affect various parts of the state, with wind speeds ranging from 30-60 kmph. The IMD has issued orange and yellow warnings for different districts, advising residents to be prepared and aware of the weather conditions.
For March 20-21, an orange warning has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Kendrapada districts, where thunderstorms with lightning, hail, and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are likely to occur. A yellow warning has been issued for Sundargarh, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, and Deogarh districts, where thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are likely to occur.
The IMD has also predicted that thunderstorms with lightning, hail, and gusty winds (50-60 kmph) are likely to occur in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul, and Dhenkanal districts on March 21-22. These seven districts have been issued an orange warning. Besides, a yellow warning has been issued for several other districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Bargarh, and Deogarh. These districts will experience lightning with gusty surface wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph.
For March 22-23, IMD prediction reads: “Thunderstorm with lightning and hail with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundargarh.”
The weather forecast further reads: “Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal”.
