Bhubaneswar: In its weather forecast for the next five days, the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here on Friday issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Nawarangpur districts of Odisha till 8.30 am on Saturday.
The weather office has also forecasted the occurrence of hailstorms to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Gajapati, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore.
Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places in the districts of coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, and at one or two places over the remaining districts of Odisha.
While a yellow warning has been issued for Saturday, the IMD has issued an orange warning for Sunday for thunderstorms with lightening, hail, and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj accompanied by heavy rainfall likely to occur at one or two places in Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh.
People have been advised to keep watch on the weather and take safe shelter during thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning and follow traffic advisories in urban areas.
