Bhubaneswar: After a prolonged heat-wave spell, people in some parts of Odisha may get some respite from the intense heat on Monday as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by light rain at several places of the state.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms in more than a few districts of Odisha till Wednesday.
“Thunderstorms with lightning are very likely to occur at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nawarangapur, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts today,” said IMD said in a bulletin.
The IMD further said that that there is unlikely to be any major change in the maximum temperature (day temperature) at many places over the districts of Odisha during the next five days. It is likely to be 42°C or more at a few places during the next five days in some districts of interior Odisha, such as Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Bolangir, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh.
At the same time, the IMD said that hot and discomfort weather is very likely to prevail in most Odisha districts.
The IMD has forecast thunderstorms with lightning, and gusty surface wind speeds reaching 40 to 50 kmph over some districts of Odisha. It also predicted thunderstorms with lightning and light to moderate rain in some districts of Odisha.
People have been advised to keep watch on the weather and take safe shelter during thunderstorm events.
