Bhubaneswar: The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here has forecast thunderstorm activities in several districts of Odisha during the next 3-4 days.
It said that an increase in thunderstorm activity is very like in several Odisha districts this week under the influence of low-level prevailing moist easterly from the Bay of Bengal and the middle and upper tropospheric westerly trough. Scattered to fairly widespread thunderstorms with rain, lightning, isolated hail, and gusty surface wind speed are very likely to occur in some districts of the state.
As per the day-wise thunderstorm warning issued by the IMD for several districts of the state, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places in Khordha, Puri, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, and Bolangir districts on Tuesday.
The IMD bulletin further says that thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places in Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Bolangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sonepur, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput on Wednesday.
On April 27, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput and Rayagada districts. Moreover, hailstorms may occur at one or two places in Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput, Rayagada, and Nabarangpur districts.
Thunderstorms with lightning are very likely to occur at one or two places in Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Khordha, Kandhamal, Boudh, Nayagarh, and Keonjhar districts on April 28.
