Bhubaneswar: Here’s good news for the inhabitants of Odisha. After several days of severe heatwave, the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar on Sunday forecasted rain, lightning and gusty surface winds in the state during the next few days.
According to the weather office, rainfall activities are likely to bring the much-needed respite from the heatwave, while some parts of the state are likely to experience gusty surface wind with speeds reaching 30-40 kmph during the next few days.
Although any major change in the maximum (day) temperature has been ruled out during the next 24 hours, the IMD said that mercury may drop by 4°C to 6°C under the influence of nor’wester during the subsequent 3-4 days.
The IMD predicted light rain/ thundershower at some places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, and Rayagada in the next 24 hours. At the same time, heatwave conditions will prevail in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Boudh, Angul, Nayagarh, Nuapada, and Balangir.
Meanwhile, the weather agency has warned fisherman not to venture into the rough sea along and off north Odisha coast between May 6 and 8.
