Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for parts of Odisha, forecasting moderate thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, surface winds reaching 40-60 kmph, and light to moderate rainfall over the next three hours in Gajapati, Rayagada, Jajpur, and Cuttack districts.
The weather conditions may cause minor damage to loose or unsecured structures, banana trees, and possibly standing crops. Residents in these areas are advised to remain alert and prepare to take necessary precautions, including relocating to safer places if the weather worsens.
In addition, a Yellow Warning has been issued for Dhenkanal district, where light to moderate thunderstorms with gusty winds (30-40 kmph), lightning, and rainfall are expected within the next three hours. Citizens are urged to stay updated on weather developments and take protective measures against lightning strikes.
The alerts were issued at 3.05 PM on Monday by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar.
The IMD has advised people in the affected regions to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols to avoid weather-related accidents.
