Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of ‘Yellow’ warnings forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph across various districts of Odisha.
According to the IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers are likely at a few places in North Odisha and isolated locations in South Odisha until August 8.
On August 4, the IMD warned of thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds at one or two places in districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
The warning was extended on August 5 to include Rayagada and Koraput along with the aforementioned districts, again predicting similar weather conditions at isolated locations.
On August 6, the IMD issued another ‘Yellow’ alert for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds over an expanded list of districts, including Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, and Malkangiri, alongside previously mentioned districts.
From August 7 to 8, the department has forecasted heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph over one or two places in Odisha.
Residents are advised to stay cautious and keep updated with local weather bulletins as the conditions may lead to temporary disruptions.
