Thunderstorms With Lightning Likely To Continue In Odisha During Next 4-5 Days

Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorms with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind are likely over districts of Odisha during the next 4-5 days.

“Due to likely interaction of middle dry westerly with lower level moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal, meteorological conditions becoming favourable for moderate thunderstorm activity with lightning, heavy rain, gusty surface wind and scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over the districts of Odisha during next 4 to 5 days,” regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a special bulletin on Wednesday.

Here is the IMD’s forecast and warnings for the next five days:

Day-1 (Valid up to 0830 Hrs IST of 09.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Angul, Kandhamal and at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha.

Yellow warning:-(be updated) Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Ganjam.

Thunderstorms with lightning are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Gajapati, and Rayagada.

Day-2 (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 09.05.2024 to 0830 Hrs IST 10.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of Odisha.

Yellow warning:-(Be updated) Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and heavy Rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Angul, Balasore.

Thunderstorms with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput.

Day-3 (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 10.05.2024 to 0830 Hrs IST 11.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of North Odisha and at a few places over the districts of South Odisha.

Yellow Warning (Be updated) Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Khurda, Nayagarh, Boudh, Deogarh, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Ganjam, Kandhamal.

Day-4 (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 11.05.2024 to 0830 Hrs IST 12.05.2024)

Yellow Warning (Be updated) Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 KMPH very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Koraput, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Balasore.

Day-5 (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 12.05.2024 to 0830 Hrs IST 13.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershower is very likely to occur at few places over the districts of Odisha.

Yellow Warning (Be updated) Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 KMPH is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Khurda, Nayagarh, Rayagada, Puri.
