Bhubaneswar: A tiger has been spotted in the Hirapalli forest under Ganjam district’s Buguda Range, spreading fear among locals. The tiger allegedly attacked and killed a cow, leaving the villagers in a state of panic.
According to reports, the cow was grazing in the jungle when the tiger attacked it. A cow grazer identified as Debraj Nayak witnessed the incident and informed the villagers, who later found the cow’s carcass and tiger pugmarks in the jungle.
Upon being informed, the forest department officials, including the Buguda and Odagaon Range officers, visited the spot and assessed the situation.
The carcass of the cow has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
However, the forest department has not confirmed whether the attack was indeed carried out by a tiger or another animal.
That apart, a leopard has been spotted in the jungles near Jayapur and Gopapur villages in Baranga in Cuttack district, spreading fear among locals.
According to reports, the leopard was first seen by some residents of Jayapur village around 9 pm on Sunday. Later, it was also spotted in Gopapur village. A photo of the leopard has gone viral on social media.
The news of the leopard’s presence has created a sense of panic in the area, with many locals expressing concern for their safety. The forest department has been informed, and officials are expected to visit the area to assess the situation.
The frequent sighting of wild animals in human settlements has raised concerns about the safety of both humans and animals.
