Dhenkanal: A dead leopard was found dead near Barihargadi village in the Khajuriakota section of the Dhenkanal Hindu Range on Wednesday.
On receiving the information from local villagers, Forest department officials reached the site and started an investigation into the death of the leopard. As of now, the officials are yet to ascertain the reason behind the animal’s death. They are trying to figure out whether the leopard died naturally or was killed by a poacher.
“We have sent a team after receiving information and the cause of death will be known after the post-mortem,” said DFO Prakash Chand Gogineni. The Forest official said that the leopard may have come from the nearby forest though there is no previous report of the movement of leopards.
