Keonjhar/ Nuapada: People in Ghatgaon in Odisha’s Keonjhar district and Nuapada village in Nuapada district are spending sleepless nights fearing attacks on them as well as their cattle by tigers roaming in these areas.

According to reports, a big cat killed four buffalos and devoured one of them in Baiganpal forest near Ghatgaon in Keonjhar on Saturday. The cattle belonged to a villager who had taken his buffalos to graze in the Baiganpal forest area near his habitation.

He said that a tiger had mauled four buffalos and devoured one animal completely.

On receiving the news, Keonjhar DFO HD Dhanraj, Ghatgaon Ranger and some Forest staff reached the spot on Sunday and took stock of the situation.

Meanwhile, a report from Nuapada in Odisha said that a tiger killed two calves near Bahari village in the Dharambandha area. The big cat entered the village under the Nuapada forest range area and dragged away domestic animals from the shed to a distant place in the village and then mauled them to death.

On being informed, Forest officials reached the village and advised villagers to stay indoors. They also assured the villagers that the movements of the big cat are being monitored.

With increasing incidents of tiger attacks, people in remote villages of Keonjhar and Nuapada districts are now afraid to go outside of their houses even during the daytime.
