Bhubaneswar: Tigress Zeenat, which had strayed into Jharkhand’s jungle from Similipal in Mayurbhanj district, has moved to West Bengal. Prakash Gogineni, Field Director of Similipal Tiger Reserve, stated that the big cat is currently roaming in Jhargram forest of West Bengal.
After roaming in Jharkhand for around 12 days, the tigress crossed into West Bengal. A special team of forest and veterinary officers has kept a close watch on its movement. Efforts are being made to bring it back to Similipal forest, Gogineni said.
The tigress, originally from Maharashtra’s Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve, was relocated to Similipal last month. It crossed the Odisha border, embarking on an extraordinary journey spanning over 100 km into Jharkhand, close to the West Bengal border.
The Jharkhand government had imposed Section 163 of BNSS in four villages adjacent to Rajabasa forest under Chakulia forest division in Jharkhand due to the movement of the big cat.
The three-year-old tigress reached Jashipur on November 14 and was kept in a soft enclosure near Chahala for 10 days before being released into the core of Similipal North on November 24. On Monday night, Zeenat exited her habitat in STR and moved into the forests of neighbouring Jharkhand.
