Baripada: Tigress Zeenat, currently roaming in Jhargram forest in West Bengal, will be brought back to Similipal reserve through tranquilization.

Prakash Chand Gogineni, Field Director of Similipal Tiger Reserve, stated that Zeenat is moving within West Bengal, with the Odisha and West Bengal forest departments tracking it round the clock. Zeenat is reportedly fit and fine, with efforts underway to bring it back through tranquilization.

Zeenat, originally from Maharashtra, was released into Similipal and later crossed the Odisha border into Jharkhand. After roaming freely for several days, it travelled to West Bengal. Multiple teams from the Odisha and Bengal forest departments are tracking the big cat’s movements, with all necessary equipment ready for tranquilization.

Zeenat, a native of Tadoba-Andheri in Maharashtra, was released into Similipal on November 24. Forest officials tracked its movement through a radio collar and found it in the Chakulia region of Jharkhand. After spending around 10 days there, it moved into West Bengal.

Similarly, the tigress Jamuna is fit and healthy, roaming in the Kuldiha sanctuary under the Similipal landscape.
