Bhubaneswar: A resident of Bhubaneswar had to pay the price of removing his driver from his job. Enraged over it, the driver set his employer’s car and bikes afire. However, the whole incident was recorded in a Close Circuit Television Camera (CCTV) installed there.
The incident took place at Khandagiri Krishna Garden Phase-II where Ajit Kumar Naik and his wife Jyotsna reside.
The complainant Naik said, “Our driver was alcoholic. As our car was old, it required repairing. So we asked him to look for a new job in May 2023. We hired a new driver in October after repairing the car. He got angered after he came to know about new hiring. He hatched a plan to torch my car. On February 19, he barged into our house and torched our car parked in the garage with the help of explosive materials. As our bike was parked there, it also caught fire in no time. Upon being informed by neighbours, fire Service officials reached the spot and doused the fire.”
Khandagiri Inspector-in-Charge Abhimanyu Das said, “We had received a complaint from Ajit Naik on February 19 that a miscreant had set his car and bike on fire before fleeing. We arrested a person identified as Abdul Hakim who resides in Baramunda. Naik had removed him from his driver’s job for some reason six months back. He torched the car just to take revenge. Wherever he worked, the employer used to remove him after some days. Abdul had no criminal case against him.”
