Bhubaneswar: The death toll in the explosion at an illegal firecracker unit in Khurda’s Bhusandapur went up to six as another critically injured person succumbed to severe burns.
The deceased has been identified as Maheshwar Behera (23) who was undergoing treatment. Another victim with critical burn injuries is still battling for life at the hospital.
In the mishap, Bandavan Sahu, Niranjan Behera, Barju Behera and Sahadeva Behera died on the spot in the explosion while another victim Dolagobinda Behera succumbed at the hospital.
Maheswar is the sixth casualty. Following the incident, several illegal firecracker manufacturing units were raided and sealed in Khurda.
On the other hand, the district administration is preparing to raze down the house where the blast occurred as it is constructed illegally on government land, sources said.
