Kandhamal: A shocking incident unfolded in the Pakari reserve forest of Daringibadi police station in Kandhamal district, where top Maoist leader Anwesh was killed by his fellow Maoists for planning to surrender to the police.

Anwesh, the area party commander of the KKBN group, had planned to surrender with 12 of his associates, but was thwarted by most wanted Maoist Sukru and his colleagues.

A fight ensued between Sukru and Anwesh, resulting in Anwesh’s death and burial in the forest. Security forces, led by Baliguda SDPO Shubham Bhosale, recovered Anwesh’s body and sent it for forensic analysis. The Odisha government had announced a Rs 22 lakh prize for Anwesh’s surrender.

Kandhamal SP Harisha BC appealed to Maoists to surrender, citing the government’s rehabilitation policy. This incident highlights the internal conflicts within Maoist groups and the ongoing efforts of security forces to eliminate extremism in Odisha.
