Gajapati: Several villagers in Odisha have been cut off from Parlakhemundi in Gajapati District after the under-construction Kerandi Dalimpur Bridge was stopped due to incessant rain and flooding in the area during the last few days.
According to reports, the construction work of the Kerandi Dalimpur Bridge near Parlakhemundi in the Gajapati district was in progress and a temporary road and culvert were constructed on the side of the bridge. However, the entire road and the culvert were washed away on Tuesday due to torrential rains. As repair work could not be completed due to heavy downpours, communication with Amara, Ratini, Sahalimpur, and Parlakhemundi was cut off, causing distress to more than 3,000 people.
Now, these villagers have to travel 14 km more to reach Parlakhmundi via neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. As these villages are located on the border of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, the residents of these villages depend on Parlakhemundi for every necessity.
Even as these villages have been cut off from remaining Odisha, the local authorities are yet to make any temporary arrangements for transportation or transit so far.
