Rayagada: Following heavy rains in the upper catchment areas and triggering of strong water currents, the approach road to an under construction bridge in the district here on Thursday has been washed away for which link between adjacent Andhra and this southern Odisha district has been snapped up.

Even road connectivity has been cut off to around 30 villages of two Gram Panchayats in the district here.

Aggrieved villagers complained that neither are they able to rush to hospital in emergency nor their children could go to schools and colleges, let alone other basic amenities.

Vehicular communication between Gunupur and Srikakulam in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh has been disrupted.

The washed away approach road to the under construction bridge is near Jagannathpur village under Gunpur block.

As per reports, rains have been pounding for the last two days.

The residents of over 30 villages of Gathalapada and Marampa Panchayats under Gunupur block have been marooned as the temporary bridge that directly connects Andhra Pradesh got swept away.

Besides, a long trail of vehicles was seen being stranded on both sides of the road.
