Bhubaneswar: Continuing the traffic awareness programme, Sagarika Nath, DCP (Traffic) on Monday flagged off a truck for enabling traffic awareness in the Capital city.
Following the Cuttack model, the truck called ‘Sachetanata Rath’ will cover areas under Commissionerate Police’s jurisdiction.
Speaking to the media persons, IPS Nath said, “The truck that was launched in Cuttack four days ago and the one flagged in Bhubaneswar today will have the sole purpose of creating awareness regarding the New Motor Vehicle Act (2019) and in general road safety rules. It will broadcast the message via loudspeaker and through visual depiction.”
She was asked the increase in percentage of people following the now-stringent rules; to which she said, “Cannot give an exact number, but there has been a visible increase in the number of aware citizens. We sincerely appreciate your efforts in following the rules. I would like to reiterate what Commissionerate Police had mentioned- we will only focus on the five rules of wearing helmet, wearing seat belt, avoiding drunk driving, having necessary papers, and avoiding driving on the wrong side.”
“The rath will ply in Bhubaneswar for the next 10 days, i.e a total of 15 days after including four in Cuttack. We will inspect the state of awareness in the twin cities after 15 days and will accordingly continue or discontinue the program,” DCP (Traffic) added.
