Bhubaneswar: In continuation with the Commissionerate of Police’s strict stance against traffic violators, 69 vehicles, which were driving on the wrong way, were seized across the Capital city, today.
Before installation of spike barriers, the Police Commissionerate conducted checking at nine sites across the City and a total of 69 vehicles were seized.
Speaking on this issue, Traffic (ACP) Swastik Panda said, “We acted in accordance with Section 184E of amended Motor Vehicles Act (2019) under the directions of Police Commissioner and Traffic DCP. 69 vehicles were seized and sent to impound. Since this is a non-cognizable offence, we are acting as per CrPC.”
“A seizure report and a prosecution report will be sent to court along with the vehicle. After the fine amount is duly, one can get in writing from court after which vehicles will be let go. We hope the stringent action will act as a deterrent for rule-breakers,” Traffic (ACP) added. He also said that the first spike barrier will come up in front of Esplanade One.
It is important to note here that CrPC, i.e. Criminal Procedure Code is the main legislation on procedure for administration of substantive criminal law in India.
According to sources, after examining the results, 32 other locations will be equipped with spike barriers, sources said.
Yesterday, Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi had urged the public to follow traffic rules in letter and spirit as those are meant for their safety.
