Rayagada: The Childline and Government Railway Police (GRP) today rescued eight minor children from Rayagada railway station. These children were being trafficked to Vijayawada, said sources.

These children belong to Koraput, Kalahandi and Rayagada districts. They were waiting to board a train for Vijayawada to work in brick kiln.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of the Childline and GRP rescued them. However, the agent who was involved in the racket managed to flee from the spot. The children were produced before the Child Welfare Committee and then sent to a shelter home.

The CWC will be taking a call to send these children to their native places after verifying their addresses.
