Sundargarh: A suspected thief and his two pursuers died after being run over by a trailer truck coming from the opposite direction near Chhatabara of Bileimunda on the Bankibahal-Taparia Road under Hemgiri police limits of Sundargarh district on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as Manas Kumar Rath of Mahulpali village under Bheden police limits of Bargarh district, Prince Nayak of Udusu village under Bisra police limits of Sundargarh district, and Budha Chitiki (suspected thief) of Balinga village under Hemgiri police limits of Sundargarh district.
According to reports, an SUV was lying abandoned after it met with an accident near Chhatabara of Bileimunda Bankibahal-Taparia Road. Budha Chitiki of Balinga village was trying to steal tyres and other parts from the abandoned SUV.
He was confronted by the security guard and supervisor of a road construction agency. The confrontation ended in a scuffle.
While Budha was being chased by the construction agency’s employees-Manoj Kumar Rath and Prince Nayak, the three were run over by a trailer truck coming from the opposite direction.
The three died on the spot instantaneously. The trailer truck overturned a few meters away after running over the three.
Police on reaching the spot have seized the bodies, registered a case, and are investigating the matter.
