Sundergarh: The injured elephant calf, which survived the train accident in Rourkela’s Bandhamunda area, has been shifted to Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar for speedy recovery after being tranquillized.
The calf was among 23 elephants hit by a goods train on Monday, resulting in the death of one elephant and injuries to two others. The critically injured calf was loaded onto a special truck this morning and transported to Nandankanan while the other injured female jumbo is reported to have strayed into a forest.
The train accident disrupted train services on the Howrah-Mumbai main line and Rourkela-Ranchi line for several hours. However, Railway and forest department personnel worked together to restore train services, which resumed this morning.
